On September 10, 2021, Moscow hosted the international conference "The Road to Bern" in support of the 3rd UN World Data Forum. The event was organized by the Federal State Statistics Service together with the International Center for Statistical Expertise "Centrostat", the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the World Bank and the Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
“Rosstat is grateful to our Swiss colleagues for the opportunity to become co-organizers of one of the events of the World Data Forum,” said the head
of Rosstat Pavel Malkov in his welcoming speech, adding, “In general, this UN global initiative has certainly raised the authority of official statistics and provided a dialogue for all who work with information."

The organizers of the conference held three sessions dedicated to the integration of modern data science into traditional statistics, cooperation between public and private data producers, the new needs of data users, and the training and competencies of modern statisticians.

A total of 25 speakers took part in the event. Among them are the Head of Rosstat Pavel Malkov, the CEO of Centrostat Dmitry Politov, Director-General of the Federal Statistical Office of Switzerland Georges-Simon Ulrich, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of European Businesses Tadzio Schilling and other experts from international structures, national statistical services and large companies working with data. Director of the UN Statistics Division Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the ESCAP Statistics Division Rikke Munk Hansen, Director of the World Bank Data Development Group Haishan Fu, as well as representatives of the national statistical services of Germany, Canada and the UK addressed the conference participants in the format of a video message.

The CEO of Centrostat Dmitry Politov moderated the session "Official Statistics and Private Data Producers - Opportunities for Cooperation". “Statistics ceases to be an exclusively state monopoly, many new players appear in the field. In such conditions, it is necessary to build interaction, to look for such a channel that will allow private data producers to help the state ones, and the state ones to strengthen the private ones,” said Dmitry Politov, summing up the discussion.

The International Conference "Road to Bern" in Moscow was one of several regional events in support of the 3rd UN World Data Forum, which will be held from October 3 to 6, 2021, in Bern, Switzerland. "Over 70 sessions and 400 speakers – you will have quite something to look forward to," said Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the UN Statistics Division, in his video message.
