22 october 2021
On October 21-22, 2021, the inaugural online forum was held in the online format within the framework of the project “Nurturing young official statisticians in Central Asia as catalysts for the future of official statistics.” The event was organized by Rosstat, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) with the assistance of Centrostat.
In his welcoming speech at the opening of the forum, Deputy Head of Rosstat Sergey Egorenko stressed the importance of creating an expert network in the Central Asia region for the professional development of young specialists. “Within the framework of our joint project, the International Center for Statistical Expertise (Centrostat), work is also underway to create a network of experts who will act as lecturers and methodologists in various initiatives with ESCAP and other international structures,” noted Mr Egorenko.
The two-day forum for young statisticians from the region is just the first step of a large-scale project. A series of events with educational institutions of Central Asian countries is set to take place, with a focus on exchanging information about promising directions for the development of official statistics, its needs and role in the development of the state.
The main goal of the project is to create a community of young statisticians to support their professional growth, exchange experience in using new data sources, as well as collection, analysis and dissemination methods. New and existing training materials for Russian-speaking statisticians are to be developed and updated accordingly.
The project aims to work with young statisticians from seven countries of the region - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The implementation period is 2021-2022.
